Hi, it's Pat!

When I first started my business, I thought I needed everything figured out before moving forward. I imagined that once I built it, it would just run like clockwork forever. But reality hit fast — things didn’t stay the same for long.

It turns out the key to success wasn’t having the perfect plan from the start.

It was in starting, period.

The more action I took, the more I learned, and the more my business evolved in ways I never could’ve predicted. In this newsletter, I’m sharing the timeline of SPI since it began in 2008 and exactly how those changes came about.

You’ll see exactly how most of it was actually unplanned…

THE STORY

When I look back at the history of Smart Passive Income, I see so many moments of change that I never could’ve predicted at the start. The funny thing is, every time SPI changed, it got better. Each version — each iteration — was stronger because it was built on lessons learned from actually doing the work.

Here’s a quick timeline of SPI’s evolution over the years, along with the reasons behind those changes:

Every shift and change taught me something critical — something I never would’ve learned if I had waited to plan it all out perfectly. By taking action early, I was able to adapt, evolve, and grow SPI into something far beyond what I initially imagined.

Key Lessons and Takeaways:

  1. Start sooner, not later: Waiting for perfection leads to stagnation. Starting sooner gives you the advantage of learning and adapting quickly.
  2. Embrace change: Your business will evolve, and that’s a good thing! Every new version will be stronger if you let your experiences shape it.
  3. Take action to create clarity: Often, taking action clarifies what you really need to focus on.

What’s Next for You?

Take a moment to assess where your business is right now. What’s working? What’s feeling stuck or stagnant? And most importantly, where could you take action today to set things in motion?

Here’s the thing — what you create today won’t be the same tomorrow, but it will only change for the better if you take the first step.

I’ll leave you with one final quote that sums this up:

"The best way to predict the future is to create it." —Peter Drucker

Dad Joke of the Week???

It's inappropriate to make a 'dad joke' if you're not a dad.

It's faux pa.
