Only a few days left to protect red light cameras

Last week, we wrote to you about the urgent need to protect New York City’s life-saving red light camera program.

With just a few days left this session, we need you to take action to ensure these cameras stay on.

Here are the facts:

• Red light running rose 56% between 2020 and 2023.
• Last year, 39 New Yorkers were killed by reckless drivers running a red light.
• Despite this, state law limits red light cameras to just 1% of signalized intersections.

We need more red light cameras to protect pedestrians, bike riders, and other drivers on our streets.

TWO THINGS TO DO

We need real alternatives ahead of the summer’s G train shutdown. With construction kicking off this summer on much-needed improvements to the G train, we’re calling on the MTA and the city to deliver dedicated bus lanes, increased bus service, and better, safer biking during the 10-week shutdown. Join the MTA and DOT at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, at John Ericsson Middle School or virtually for a town hall on the effects of the summer shutdown.
