Only Enter Your Database When You Need To: The Power of Automation

In April 2020, I had the pleasure of hosting a live webinar with Senior Sport Scientist, Dr. Marcus Colby, from our US office in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. A fascinating point of discussion in the "Internal and External Load Management" webinar was automation.
A quote that stuck with me from the discussion was: "Only enter the system when you need to". It becomes an inefficacy issue when a member of staff, whether that be a high performance manager, physiotherapist or coach, has to dig and dive to access athlete data. Much like an immediate push notification on LinkedIn when you receive a message or a "like" on a post, utilising an AMS (or any database) to achieve the same outcome is crucial. This ensures clear and concise communication with readily available information about your department.
Take the time to build out a tree of alerts to ensure the correct persons are notified when their attention is needed in the system. Use performance alerts to raise awareness via push notification, email, or text. Marcus discusses how this will streamline your processes by prompting you to dig deeper into the data that needs extra attention only when its necessary.
I can relate the importance of automation and push notifications back to previous articles I've written where said data can be used to increase staff and player engagement alike and also be used to provide outcomes and instructions for your athletes after a session. Not only is automation dedicated for outgoing data, it is also recommended for incoming data, again to avoid trawling data sets for flags.
