Only the Beginning

Only the Beginning

Already it is the end of the third week of the semester and February is right around the corner. This week was busy and productive for me as I prepared to begin my spring internship with the Center for the Study of the American West, or better known as CSAW, here on campus. Yesterday, Friday, was my first day.

On my first day, I had a tour of the office and met other interns. We talked over our roles and learned of our main goals. My main goal for this internship is to help publicize CSAW's the Forgotten Frontera project and assist with planning for future Forgotten Frontera works. As part of my first day, I was also able to read the proposal for this project and I essentially learned the essence and main goals for the overall project which is to recognize and document the contribution of "Mexican American and Tejano history in the Southern Great Plains region." Check out their website to learn more about this project.

I am excited to begin working for CSAW and I look forward to contributing towards the success of their goals. I can't wait to see what skills I might learn and I look forward to developing both the Forgotten Frontera and my experience.

As for this week's lessons in class, I learned the key elements to the perfect LinkedIn profile picture such as choosing the perfect expression. As the article mentioned, a study found that "people view you as more likable, competent, and influential" if you smile in your picture. With this in mind, I am now planning on taking new headshots for future use.

This next week will be a new week for me as I will have a new schedule to get used to, but even then, I am excited to begin working and developing my professional skills.
