Let me tell you what online marketing is and what is its goals. Online marketing is simply any tool or strategy used to get a company's name out in Public or grab people's attention. We can also call it Digital marketing and it has the following parts:

Digital Marketing:

Social Media Marketing: Facebook Marketing, Instagram Marketing, YouTube Marketing, etc.

Search Engine Optimization/Marketing: 

  • On-Page SEO: Website Audit, Keyword Research, Competitor Analysis, etc.
  • Off-Page SEO: Backlink Creation, Social Sharing, Blog Submission, Quora Marketing, Web 2.0, Article Submission, etc.

Email Marketing

Affiliate Marketing

Now let's say we are a start-up and want to go for online marketing. Depending on your business there could be different ways to start and I am not going to tell you any strategy but I am going to tell you the outcome of different marketing and things you should keep in your mind.

Website: If you have a website and you want to promote it. First, you should make your website the best possible not just visually but SEO and user friendly:

  • Headings: Use the proper heading on your website. It does not only help your users to navigate but also helps the ranking of your website.
  • Title: Make sure the title you are using is not too long nor too short it can be between 50-70characters. It also helps your website to get a better ranking
  • Metadata: The description of the website which you see below the title on a search engine is called Metadata. The ideal length of metadata is 150-160 characters
  • Sitemap: If you have a website with multiple pages and URLs make sure that your website has got a sitemap to help users navigate.
  • Product: If you have a product or product description on your website, make sure that you have clearly explained the product in simple words.
  • Content: Do not put too much on your website. Try to explain with fewer words and if possible few images.

Our website is now SEO and user friendly and let us see how we can get traffic on the website. From here we have two paths one, SEO, and two, Social Media Marketing, and I am going to discuss both:

Keyword Research: The first thing we need to do is keyword research. The keyword research helps you to analyze the difficulty level, volume, priority, etc. for a particular keyword. It also going to give you suggestions on some easier keywords. Now that we have chosen our keywords, we are going to use these keywords linking with our websites which we call backlinks.


Backlinks Creation: According to me backlink creation is one of the most (if not the most) important part of digital marketing because if your websites have a greater number of backlinks, your website ranking would be better. Let us see the activities we can do for backlink creation:

  • Article Submission: There are 3rd party sites used for article submission.
  • Web 2.0: There are websites where it is very easy to create a site but the domain which you chose will also have the name of the websites for example blogger (by google) is the web 2.0 platform.
  • Quora Marketing: We can also use Quora as a platform for backlink creation,

Similarly, there are tons of other ways to create backlinks like blogs, guest posting, etc.

Let me now help you answer your own question which you have so far in your mind; why? Why are we doing all this? Tell me when you search anything on google, have you gone to the third or fourth page of the search result; you don’t even go to the second page most of the time and look on the first page only. I guess you got your answer i.e. if your website is not on the first page or on the top three results, you are not going to get much traffic.

Social Media Marketing: Next we go for social media. Most of the population is on social media making it one of the most important platforms for marketing but the problem is we are not the only ones use it for marketing. So, let us see how we can make a difference.

  • Platform: There are different social media platform available out there, choose the most appropriate platform for your product.
  • Audience: Define your audience for example gender, age group profession etc. and then analyze the timing when they use their social media and join appropriate pages and groups.
  • Post: Make sure that your posts are clear, relevant, attractive, and can catch the attention of the user. 
  • Consistency: This is the most important part of social media marketing. Maybe you do not get any leads for a month or two but remember that people are watching. So, keep posting and sooner or later you will get your results

The ways I have discussed are free and will get you organic traffic on your website. There are other ways we can use for marketing which are paid. I am not going to discuss them, but you should know about it:

  • Affiliate Marketing: In this type of marketing, you pay other marketers to promote your websites.
  • Search Engine Marketing: In this method, you bid on certain keywords and when those keywords are searched, your website is shown at the top but there will be an "Ads" tag attached to it.
