This one's all about 'connection': sharing my path to becoming a High-Stakes Leadership Mentor - no holds barred!

Welcome to my last newsletter of 2023 - an exciting (and sometimes crazy) year! I'm incredibly proud to have celebrated several 'firsts' along the way, including:?

  • Becoming a member of WACL
  • Being a guest speaker at Cannes
  • Giving my first (paid!) talk abroad, in beautiful Athens
  • Enjoying a mid-year sabbatical to recharge
  • Rebranding & refreshing my website
  • Working deeply with a global leadership team over a 12-month engagement and witnessing sustained growth and success.

Not bad for a Yorkshire lass who was once deeply unsure of my place in the world and yet found the b&lls to go backpacking alone in Asia (before the invention of email!); who was so paralysed by indecision, I was fired from a job I'd outgrown; who walked away from my previous business, despite its 'success', because I didn't feel enough passion for it...

I could go on, but for the rest of the story, you'll have to tune into the Genuine Humans podcast!*

The show's hosts Tamara Littleton and Wendy Christie gave me a very welcoming platform to share my path to becoming a High-Stakes Leadership Mentor, to reflect on the life events that have shaped me and to publicly thank the significant people who have helped me get here - because, let's face it, no-one can do it alone! Having those connections - especially for senior leaders and entrepreneurs - is essential.

I'd love to know ??

  • Have you experienced any 'special firsts' this year - and if so, how have you celebrated and who do you want to thank?
  • How are you setting yourself up for success next year?
  • Are you creating new opportunities and connections or consolidating those you already have?

God knows, the world is more demanding than ever and today's leaders risk running on half empty tanks - not only do you get the least love, you put themselves last!

Having that all-important 'tribe' around you will keep you sustained and energised, so you can push your professional and personal boundaries and be open to new opportunities. Without that support, you risk - at best, becoming stale - and at worst, experiencing burnout.

So, in between the flurry of Christmas parties and awards ceremonies, I urge you to make time to replenish your own tank: enjoy some self care, connect with the people who matter and switch off properly in readiness for whatever 2024 brings!

Wishing you a wonderful break and a happy New Year!
