#1 ) MONTHLY COSTS FOR LIVE COVERAGE OF THE EUROPEAN TOP LEAGUES (BUNDESLIGA, PREMIER LEAGUE, SERIE A, LALIGA, LIGUE 1) (OCT/2023)

Due to the current rights allocation, it is complicated and costly for football fans to follow the Big 5 leagues in European club football. We have taken a look at the breakdown and, from a German fan's perspective, at the two protagonists Sky and DAZN.

If you want to watch all 5 leagues, based on a annual subscription model with both media players, you have to pay 94.98 € / month (=1,139.76€ / year). It's obvious, that these numbers in the context of a national recession, are tough to manage for fans.

#2) MOST POPULAR SPORTS FOR PLACING SPORTS BETS OVER TIME

The provided data represents the results of two survey waves regarding the betting behavior of sports fans in various sports. The percentages indicate the proportion of respondents who engage in betting in the respective sports. The data from the two survey waves are as follows:

In the first survey wave, 64% of respondents participated in betting on national soccer, which slightly increased to 66% in the second wave. Similarly, in international soccer, the percentage of bettors rose from 46% in the first wave to 48% in the second wave. Basketball saw a slight decline from 15% to 14% in betting participation.

A notable trend was the significant decrease in betting interest for Formula 1, dropping from 18% in the first wave to 11% in the second wave (but this can be explained by the off-season). Equestrian sports, American Football, Volleyball, and Handball also experienced declines in the percentage of bettors.

Furthermore, several sports witnessed substantial reductions in betting activity. Nascar, Rugby, Ski Jumping, Alpine Skiing, and Snooker all saw declines. Ice hockey and Motorcycle betting participation decreased from 10% to 6% and from 8% to 7%, respectively.

In summary, the survey data illustrates an overall decrease in betting activity across various sports between the two survey waves. While national and international soccer maintained their popularity, several other sports experienced significant drops in the percentage of fans engaging in betting activities.
