One year on, is your love for ChatGPT still strong?

Can you believe ChatGPT has just notched up its first birthday?
Of course, it’s been around much longer than that but just over a year ago it was unleashed on regular users, taking many of us by surprise and heralding a massive communication shift.
Since then, a vast array of generative AI tools have arrived on the scene, enabling us to fast-track everything from financial analyses to video production.
We can clone voices, assess the mood in meetings and bring our dead ancestors back to life through photos that move and talk.
And here’s a question I like to ask: Are you clear on where the line sits between responsible use of generative AI and the danger zone for your credibility?
It’s a conversation few leaders are having – but all need to, in my view.
Many businesses and organizations are taking the approach of looking the other way while employees use generative AI without guidelines.
That’s a reputation problem waiting to happen. How long before incorrect information about your business is sent to a client courtesy of ChatGPT, or an inappropriate AI-generated image finds its way into the public domain?
While we all fall in love with harnessing the amazing tools now available, we need to acknowledge there’s no playbook.
The Australian government’s interim guidance for public service agencies has “accountability and human centred decision making” as one of its four principles.
That’s a solid rule of thumb for us all.
