One year on. New Data Economy magazine hits the shelves

A year ago, we launched our first print edition which successfully went around the world. Since then, three more stellar editions made it out of the newsroom carrying in them the stories of those who are leading and shaping the data centre, cloud and edge industries.

Now, we are proud to be releasing our 5th edition, one year on in the same place were Data Economy itself was born: Monaco.

If we look back, the last 12 months have continued to deliver a staggering growth for the industry across the world, especially in Asia, North America and of course Europe. But also Central and Latin America and Africa have witnessed a growing number of new builds.

Focusing on Europe, which just last month saw the General Data Protection Regulation come into force, it continues to be an interesting place challenging the most pessimistic projections.

From Brexit to a shortage of land, new data centres have been built, companies have been acquired, and most fascinatingly, large US data centre operators have made their first major investment in expanding their footprint in the Old Continent.

Also, we have seen a speeding increase of Asian – especially Chinese – companies moving into Europe as European businesses look for new opportunities in Asia, and vice versa.

One thing is for sure: the macro and microeconomics of the data centre are healthy, growing well and on the lookout for a boom in demand which is already happening and will only intensify in coming years. This demand is exactly what we, at Data Economy, attempted to showcase in this anniversary edition.

We spoke to companies from across the world, from Alibaba Cloud to Chef, Mesosphere and Nasdaq GIS on how the business is going and what the barriers are to help shine a light on what needs to be unlocked to support further growth.

The newsroom also brings to you an interview with the European Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, who talks in depth about the country’s proposition on technology, the role of governments, and how he and his cabinet will continue to support data centres and the wider sector.

Luxembourg has in recent months become a hot destination, with several expansions taking place and the first hyperscaler moves also making noise, with Google.

This is definitely a must read. Elsewhere, we’ve invited experts on Blockchain to help us understand how the technology will transform operations. We have also updated our M&A tracker which goes now all the way back to 2010 and clearly showcases the acquisition trends across the world and who’s driving them.

This and much more is all available in the next pages, but I would also like to highlight that we’ll be gathering in London in February 2019 for the first Data Economy Global Investment Summit & Awards, which I would personally like to invite you to attend. This will be a day full of debate, networking and deal making sessions. More information can be found on www.data-economy.com/summit.

We’re pleased to continue to bring you the most up to date news and views of the industry on a daily basis, and as we gear up for our second anniversary in September, watch out for some more exciting announcements from us.
