One Year Later: What’s Next for cellcentric Canada?

It's now been one year since cellcentric GmbH & Co. KG expanded their Canadian footprint and moved into their new location in the City of Burnaby .

cellcentric is a 50:50 joint venture of Daimler Truck AG and the Volvo Group AB with the ambition to become a leading global manufacturer of fuel cells, and thus help the world take a major step towards climate-neutral and sustainable transportation by 2050.

The Burnaby site, which employs about 60 people, is the organization's only office outside of Germany. The deciding factor for choosing the Metro Vancouver region? The access to and continued close exchange with our region's local expert network: it is a R&D hub for fuel cell technology.

The cellcentric site in Canada is responsible for the development and production of fuel cell stacks and thus therefore plays an important role in fuel cell production. In fact, the new facilities in Burnaby have three times the capacity and twice the space compared to their former facility, and the space has also allowed the company to expand their testing capacities.

We caught up with Dr. Matthias Jurytko , CEO of cellcentric, and Lars Johansson , COO of cellcentric, for the company's one-year anniversary in the space. "One year after our move, we are proud to say that our employees feel absolutely comfortable and at home in the new building. The positive working atmosphere and sense of belonging have contributed significantly to our collective performance," said Johansson. "The new building provides an optimized working environment and best meets the needs of our employees. It provides not only state-of-the-art facilities, but also inspiring spaces that encourage collaboration and open communication. This has resulted in strong teamwork and project successes that support Vancouver's fuel cell drive."

Of course, we also wanted to know what's next for the company. Jurytko told Invest Vancouver: "cellcentric is on its way to become a leading fuel cell supplier. In this context, the expertise and competence of cellcentric Canada will play an important role in the further positioning of our site in the overall network of development activities. Our team in Canada has extensive expertise and many years of experience with fuel cell stacks. With this knowledge, we are well equipped to develop innovative solutions and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the industry."
