Impact of conflict on education in Gaza

Since 7 October 2023, all schools, universities, and training centres in Gaza have remained closed. Facility destruction, and access constraints from Israeli military operations have left Gazans without education access.?Barely any education infrastructure is left in Gaza. Children are using time typically spent learning to queue for food and water assistance. Fatalities by September 2024 included over 10,300 students and 400 school teachers.?

Sudan scenarios for 2024-2025

In 2023, ACAPS published four scenarios on how the crisis might evolve by 2024. One year on, developments have been closer to the worst-case scenario of a collapse. In 2024, we reconvened humanitarian experts in a new series of workshops to envisage how the crisis may evolve in 2025. As a result, we have produced four new scenarios, considering four regions in Sudan.


Recurrent intercommunal violence in Papua New Guinea

Intercommunal violence broke out from 15–17 September?in Enga province, likely killing 20–50 people, displacing hundreds, and destroying many homes. On 18 February 2024, the deadliest incident of violence in the country's history claimed around 50 lives in Enga. We analyse the drivers, humanitarian impacts, and responses to intercommunal violence in Enga province.


Update on the flood situation in Asia

Pakistan. Since July, the country has experienced an exceptionally intense monsoon season. Heavy rains and floods have affected over 500,000 and killed around 400 till 23 September. In some parts of Pakistan, rainfall levels have reached up to 320% above normal.

Nepal. Heavy rainfall on 27–28 September caused flash floods, the overflow of rivers and landslides, with the worst effects in central and eastern districts. More than 8,400 people have been displaced, and over 200 killed.
