One Year in Business, Moving One Micron at a Time
One year ago, I decided I needed a change and left my job at Malvern Instruments. It was a good job that I left but I knew then it wasn't what I wanted to do long term. I decided to take a gamble on myself and my feeling that there is a need in the market for applications focused expertise related to particle testing.
The experience I've gained in the past year has been the most rewarding thing I've done in my career. The colleagues willing to help me along have been appreciated and the customers who I've worked with have been great.
Technical expertise can be hard to gain, especially in niche applications like droplet and particle size testing. These techniques and technologies are usually first exposed to users after they've joined the work world. The learning curve can be steep if not completely vertical. Fitting these niche technologies into a specific application and understanding what test results mean is becoming harder to find. This was the reason I decided to pursue my own business.
My goals from the start have been to work with customers to optimize their use of technologies I had spent the prior seven years learning and selling. Ensuring user understanding of not just the technique but of what the results mean to their process or product is what I always have enjoyed most when working with customers. Whether it's bringing a spray analyzer on-site for testing, working with customers on documentation and standardized procedures, or looking to fit a piece of equipment into an old system's place, the collaboration with customers provides opportunities for learning both for me and my customers that can't be achieved through a sales or service process when only the technology is focused on.
By shifting focus to the application involved, value can be maximized and the initial investment in a technology is realized. This continues to be my focus in hoping to uncover how best to use technologies to innovate and improve both existing and new products and processes.
If you think you could use my help in best utilizing your particle measurement capabilities, please let me know and we can discuss your situation at length.
Hope you move 'a lot' of microns in the year to come!
