ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY – TO THE FOOL IN ME

When you think about it, it is rather unsettling, really. But the Fool’s Day, or as many refer to it as 1st of April, became a little anniversary in my life. One year ago I started this newsletter with the first post called ‘Happy Fool’s Day’. The letter is growing and attracting more readers, so I keep writing about my personal and professional experiences, funny and not so much.
But every now and then, I think to myself, ‘Why bother? Do people need other spamming information on their devices? Does anyone have time to read it?’ But the answer to these questions is very clear indeed.
Before becoming a writer, I naively thought that authors published their books for others to read. Well, the ambition is definitely there – it would be great if people read what you write, and even better if they appreciate it, and even better if your realisations help someone else. But this is totally not the main reason why writers write…
Have you ever experienced a need to spill your overwhelming thoughts on paper? To play with the words and sentences like it is the most exciting game of all? To organise your comprehensions into a written order of some sort? To document a lyric before it fades away? To get lost in your own imaginative world? Or to fight the darkness in the corners of your mind by creating the fictional antidote?
If you have experienced any of the above, then you are a writer for sure. Published or not.
The truth is, writers write because they simply can’t not to.
And everyone else has to live with it ??
You see, between writing my serious stuff – my lengthy novels, stories and poems – this letter became a breath of fresh air for me to fall upon when big words don’t come. It documents the fun, light and exciting parts of my existence. It tickles my senses, reminding me of my little adventures. It becomes a tool for making my sense of this often unpredictable and unprecedented world.
And maybe, most probably, it is completely foolish to spill it all on paper, on social media, on my network. But maybe this letter is a part of me that is daring to stay foolish in this very serious and often uncompromising adult world.
After all, even Steve Jobs once told us to stay foolish.
So Happy Birthday to the Fool in me! Cheers!
