One of the world's worst humanitarian crises
Escalating conflict, mass displacement, economic crisis and a near collapse of healthcare services have plunged Sudan into one of the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophes.
The ongoing hostilities are?displacing and pushing masses of the population dangerously close to famine, with millions of lives at risk. Food production has declined, transportation routes are disrupted and, as the economy continues to crumble, essential food and commodities remain out of reach for many. Every day, another 30,000 people fall into crisis levels of food insecurity.
Islamic Relief Worldwide CEO recently visited displacement camps in Port Sudan
Speaking from Alsenayia Camp, which currently shelters approximately 3,750 people, including 1,320 children, Waseem Ahmad (IRW CEO) said:
“I was a project officer in Darfur some years ago. I lived there for seven or eight months and, compared to what I’ve seen now, it is unrecognisable. When I spoke to my colleagues, the stories they told me were unbelievable. In Port Sudan, I spoke to a man about how he and his family were coping after being displaced. They only get to eat once a day and that meal could be some bread with a tea or coffee – that’s it.”

Help us do?"what we are here to do"?
Since the fighting erupted in April 2023, Sudan has been pummelled into a catastrophic situation, with more than 10 million people displaced and more than 15,000 people killed.?
Islamic Relief has worked in Sudan for 40 years and remains by the sides of families caught up in the crisis. Since last year, we have?provided aid to more than 978,500 people.
“It’s what we are here to do. We are here to provide as much help as possible to those in need. What is happening here in Sudan is horrific and cannot be allowed to continue. There needs to be a ceasefire and humanitarian access allowed to those who need support, to avoid widespread famine,”?says Ahmad.?
Over the past 20 months, we have equipped hospitals and health clinics with critical medical supplies, distributed food packs, supported farmers, provided cash assistance and other vital support to those displaced by the violence. We have also distributed thousands of hygiene and dignity kits, and run hygiene awareness programmes in displacement camps.
Islamic Relief continues to call for an end to hostilities, before even more lives are ruined and a generation is wiped out. Please continue to support our life-saving work in Sudan.
