One week left of consultation

There's just one week left in our consultation on Aotearoa New Zealand's emissions reduction target and emissions budgets, with submissions closing next Friday 31 May. Here's what we've done so far, and what's next.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who's engaged with us over the last seven weeks, and to all who have made (or plan to make) a submission on our work.

A quick recap: we're seeking public feedback on three related projects:?

The results of the consultation will help inform upcoming decisions by the Government that will set the pace for climate policy for decades.?

Hearing from people about the opportunities you're creating, the challenges you face, and the actions that would make a real positive impact in your businesses, industries and communities helps us to ensure our work is robust and realistic.

If you haven't yet made a submission, there's still time – the deadline for submissions is 11:59pm Friday 31 May. To make a submission, head to our consultation site: Have Your Say | Climate Change Commission

What have we done in the past seven weeks??

Collage: rail wagons in a freight terminal; two men outside Te Awamutu Library; a plane's wing over Queenstown
Left to right: Mainfreight's Otāhuhu freight terminal; an agriculture hui in Te Awamutu; Queenstown from the air.

Our teams have met with people across the country – from Whangārei in the north to Invercargill in the south – for in-person meetings, hui and site visits, as well as having online discussions in zui and public webinars.

Left: Behind the scenes of our webinars. Right: Sharing our work at a Sustainable Business Council event in Auckland.

Next week we'll also be sharing kōrero and kai at a workshop for young people (aged 18–24). This is a hybrid event, meaning attendees can take part in-person at Victoria University of Wellington's Pipitea Campus, or online from anywhere in the country. Places are still available, so please RSVP or help us spread the word!

We've engaged with and listened to a wide range of people across the motu to ensure we're gathering a diverse range of feedback to inform our three projects.

Hearing from different communities and sectors is invaluable to our mahi. The insights you share help us test the assumptions in our work, and helps us ensure that our final advice to the Government will accurately reflect the challenges and opportunities facing the country.?

How to make a submission?
