One week to go until the Direct Air Capture Summit!

Dear friends of carbon removal,

In the run up to the Climeworks Direct Air Capture Summit on June 6, we're excited?to share that 摩根大通 Chase signed a?carbon dioxide removal (CDR) agreement with us! The agreement?represents one of the largest purchases to date in the direct air capture (DAC) industry between a single corporate buyer and a CDR company and heralds a new standard for the voluntary carbon market for DAC.

JPMorgan Chase and Climeworks signed a landmark CDR agreement

Valued above USD 20M, the agreement demonstrates clear support for Climeworks’ high-quality and high-integrity approach centered on a measurable, 100% additional, and permanent?removal of CO?.?Agreements of this magnitude and beyond are what is immediately needed and expected from corporate buyers going from net zero plans to net zero progress. For project developers, they represent an essential component of the financing mechanisms needed for new, larger projects, and act as catalysts for other corporate buyers. We're honored to welcome Brian DiMarino ,?Managing Director, Head of Operational Sustainability at JPMorgan Chase, as a keynote speaker at our?Direct Air Capture Summit!

Jan Huckfeldt , Chief Commercial Officer of Climeworks, says: "The commitment from JPMorgan is a landmark. Carbon dioxide removal is a complementary but essential tool to address unavoidable emissions and help the world move from net zero commitments to net zero progress. High-quality solutions like Climeworks’ measurable, additional, and permanent CDR via direct air capture and storage (DAC+S) need to be deployed fast. As we expand to achieve climate impact at scale, we look forward to supporting one of the world’s leading financial institutions on its journey to net zero."

Join Climeworks' open call for the distinction between reductions and removals

In April, Climeworks published a statement focusing on the need to clearly distinguish between emissions reductions and removals in?climate pathways, target setting and industry standards. We are convinced that this distinction helps to limit moral hazard, adds integrity to carbon markets, and fosters responsible deployment at scale. Since we published our statement we have heard growing positive feedback from within the CDR industry and want to invite further actors to join our call.

Highlights from our carbon catch-up with DNV

Monitoring, reporting and verification - in short MRV - has no doubt become a buzz word in the CDR industry. But why is it so important? And what does MRV actually look like in practice? Anirban Chatterjee (DNV) and Friedel Pretorius (Climeworks) answered these questions and many more during our carbon catch-up on May 8. Moderated by Claire Nelson (Cella), their conversation highlighted just how much detailed expertise MRV entails, which is particularly relevant for corporate buyers who are seeking quality assurance.
