You know what’s painful?
Watching high-achievers sabotaging their effort to live the life of their dream and some of the common ways to do this is by procrastinating, ruminating, blaming, criticizing, and falling into the perfectionist mindset.
Ultimately, they couldn't see the bigger picture and gave up on pursuing their long-term goal.
Today, we'll look at how procrastination is holding you back.
The solution to procrastination was not more productivity tips and tricks to force you to get things done.
Because the root of the problem was NOT time management.
High achievers got to where the level of success they achieved today is because they have a high level of self-discipline and manage their time well.
However, at some point in their life, they structure and schedule their time but still end up browsing the internet or doing other things that need to be done.
The solution is not daily reminders from a superior, cos high achievers like to pursue things and make decisions more independently.
Although they could make progress this way, they might not enjoy the journey.
So what did it actually take to shift this habit of procrastination?
No time management tips or productivity hacks are going to fix this because it's not a time management problem.

What it is, is actually an emotional regulation problem.
We're avoiding the feelings associated with the task we are doing.
Here's what to do instead.
Step 1: Allow yourself to feel
If you want to overcome this habit, you have to build your capacity to feel. Notice your impulse to distract yourself from harder tasks, and ask if you're willing to feel whatever is causing you to jump to social media/any "busy-work" to avoid (frustration, uncertainty, overwhelm, etc.)
Step 2: Be aware of your thoughts
"I'm not good enough, I need to learn more", "I don't deserve this job opportunity / this role is not for me". or..
"The deadline is still far away"....as you pick up your short-term "remedy" to distract yourself from these thoughts. You need to be able to call out your own automatic thought patterns and exchange excuses for thoughts that help you take action in return.
Step 3: The missing pieces
Building self-confidence and paving the path to your ideal life does not happen overnight, but it's one of the most important pieces. There are more ways to increase this than you think, cos there are so many "whys" behind everything we do.
Uncovering why you procrastinate is the first step to figuring out how to overcome it. You have to look past the common thinking of needing better time management and thinking you're just lazy.
