One Touch Switch Solutions. What are the options, and which one is right for my business?

With the new go-live date for the TOTSCo Industry Hub announced as 12th September 2024, many communications providers (CPs) are now looking at their options and wondering where to start. At Zentive, we've been involved with One Touch Switch (OTS) for several years, providing technical expertise to the design process. In this article, we outline the two main pathways for becoming OTS ready.

Does this apply to my business?

If you are an ISP or Reseller with residential Broadband or Fixed Voice Service customers in the UK, this will apply to you.

Direct Integration to the TOTSCo Hub

If you have software developers in-house, you may consider developing a solution to integrate your BSS stack directly into the TOTSCo Hub. The two key considerations here are cost and resource. Developing an in-house integration between your BSS stack and the TOTSCo Hub is a substantial piece of work that requires stringent security protocols and performance guarantees. Add to that, the need to keep up with future iterations and updates to the TOTSCo Hub as well as incorporating the future addition of business switching and managing all this in-house is likely to be time-consuming and expensive.

Using a Managed Access Provider

So, what if you don’t have the internal resources to develop a direct integration? Or perhaps it doesn’t stack up financially to do so?

This is when you call on the services of one of the TOTSCo approved Managed Access Providers (MAP). There are several MAPs (Including Zentive) that can be found on the TOTSCo website. Each offers a solution for integrating with the TOTSCo Hub.

  • Technical/Insourced MAP Solution:

These two are similar in that you are using the MAPs software to handle switch requests. The software could be deployed locally within your IT infrastructure or hosted in the cloud by the MAP. You may also integrate handling match requests into your current sales process or use a separate portal. Either way, you will have a contract with both the MAP and TOTSCo and will pay any charges directly to each of them.

  • Full Management MAP:

The difference between Full Management and Technical/Insourced solutions is with a Full Management MAP, you’ll only contract with the MAP. The Map will handle paying the TOTSCo charges and manage the TOTSCo relationship on your behalf.
