One is Too Small a Number To Leave a Legacy
How many people did it take to land the Apollo 11 team on the moon?
400,000!
In her book, Team Moon, Catherine Thimmesh highlights the diverse roles essential to the mission. From the seamstress who put together twenty-two layers of fabric for each space suit to the engineers who created a special heat shield to protect the capsule during its fiery reentry. It took flight directors, camera designers, software experts, suit testers, telescope crew, aerospace technicians, photo developers, engineers, and navigators.
Because of a team of 400,000 people, Neil Armstrong has a legacy.
The story of half a billion people gathering in front of their TV sets to watch Apollo 11’s attempt to put a man on the moon for the first time in all of history is really the story of 400,000 people.
Maybe your team won’t be as big, but leaving a legacy business cannot be achieved alone.
One is too small a number to leave a legacy. YOU MUST BUILD A TEAM.
Remember my friend Georgia? She built an amazing business serving delicious gluten-free food.
Georgia built a gluten-free empire!
Looking back on her journey, Georgia took pride in the thriving business she built from scratch. She worked hard and was excited about selling the business and moving into the next phase of her life.

But no one is interested in her business without her at the helm.
Georgia is ready to pass on the baton, but there is no one to pass it to. She is being forced to liquidate and will be lucky to get the value of the assets. She hopes she will get enough to pay her bills.
Georgia has not raised up a team to pass the baton to and her gluten-free empire without her at the helm is near worthless (You can read Gloria’s story HERE).
One is too small a number to achieve greatness. You must build up a team.
What are the next steps you will take today in building your team?
I have faith in you!

P.S. Shortly I will lead a six-month mastermind/peer advisory group for a few select individuals. The focus will be on succession planning. This will be a team that I will lead, where every member commits to the welfare of the other team members. This group is not for the shy. Each time we meet, each member identifies how they desire to grow and what they intend to do to follow through. In the following meetings, everyone reports on how they did.

We will meet together online twice monthly, once in the group and one private half-hour session with me.
Send me a direct message and let's start a conversation.

1 年Thanks for sharing the article Harry T. I remember reading somewhere that when NASA began their quest to put a man on the moon, they built a culture where every employee of NASA was a part of that mission. If you asked the custodian at NASA what his job responsibilities were, the answer was “to put a man on the moon”. That is a TEAM building culture. Have a great day!!!
