That one Tom Hanks movie...
Have you ever had a “Run, Forrest, run!” moment??
I’ve been shedding my figurative braces and shackles for a while now, never truly realizing that I had ever been bound by restraints. I trudged through, thinking it was ok to try so hard since it had to be like this for everyone. We each had to exert great force to get things done, it didn’t matter that I was female, or black, or poor (or terribly socially awkward and a bonafide NERD).
But actually, it’s NOT like that for everyone. I see this ever more frequently as I “ascend” the career ladder. There are many people who never had to trudge through the figurative “muck” yet they still have gone on to assume roles with greater responsibility with surprising regularity. I applaud them and wish them success because it does me no good to do otherwise. Also, I genuinely like to see the protagonists win (even if they are sometimes the antagonists…please see my previously published “LinkedIn LoveLetter” for greater context).
As the prophet we all know as Aubrey “Drake/Drizzy” Graham has said…” Started from the bottom…”?I hope to one day be “there”… wherever that may be. But while I’m trying to decide, I’m going to learn as much as I can on the way to my “here” (or “hurrr” since I’m in St. Louis right now).
