The wrong way to craft a story:

  • Something happens
  • And then
  • And then

The right way to craft a story:

  • Something happens
  • So then
  • So then

The subtle difference is causality.

The next thing doesn't merely happen after the thing prior.

It happens as a result of - due to, because of - the thing prior.

A to-do list makes for a boring story.

Unless it's being created in real-time.
