What’s the FIRST thing you do when you walk into a brand-new patient’s room for an assessment?
Hopefully, you introduce yourself and let them know why you’re there - because it would be awkward if you didn’t…
But after that…
You ask a bunch of questions.
Right?
You’re not there to deliver a monologue about their diagnosis and all of the surprising ways a ??speech-language pathologist ??can help (not yet, at least).
You’re there to start a conversation, discover your patient’s goals, find the puzzle pieces, and figure out how to put them back together again using your tools, skills, and knowledge.
And that’s where screeners and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can swoop in.?
Yes, there are formal evaluations and instrumental exams, but on day one of meeting the patient, you need to figure out where to start.
There are hundreds of screeners available for SLPs to use, but how do you know which one is right for your patient?

How can you tell if it's reliable? Valid? Actually helpful?
Well, my friend, guess what!
You can now access a review of over 70 screeners and PROMs in just ONE document - for free!
Click right here to grab your copy of The Prepared MedSLP 2.0: Updated Screener Guides and PROM Questionnaires.
We’ve given this away before, but NOW it’s updated with even more patient populations and topics (like the singer’s voice, pediatric voice, and motor speech)!
If you’re a medical SLP who interviews patients at all to figure out what’s going on, how the patient feels about their symptoms, and what they hope to accomplish, this free review (which includes links to open-access screeners and questionnaires) is for you!
Pssst…?? this makes for a great supplement to the FREE MedSLP Summit coming up on May 19th, titled Advanced Therapy for Complex Patients: A Medical SLP's Guide
This Summit will be for advanced ASHA CEUs because we’re digging into some of the nitty-gritty stuff now!
In the meantime, enjoy this free 50+ page kit full of patient screener reviews and resources that you can reference every day on the job.
