In America, we have one intentional day for giving thanks: Thanksgiving Day. However, families can get real negative real fast around the dinner table. It's astonishing. Pay attention the next time you’re at a Thanksgiving meal. One negative or sarcastic comment turns into two and the next thing you know, the entire meal is hijacked by a current of negativity. ?

Inside Out leaders don't give in and let the world dictate their perspective on people, situations, and problems. They have an attitude of gratitude, and they're very intentional about practicing it so they can build a lifestyle out of thankfulness. These Inside Out leaders transform their environment rather than being transformed by it. In the midst of negativity, they offer hope, anticipation, and expectancy, regardless of how difficult a situation appears on the surface.

I’m reminded of a time my niece called me up and said, "Uncle Robb, I have a project in one of my classes. I'm supposed to find a family member or a close friend that has a life quote that they live by, and I knew I could call you. You always have a lot to say. So, Uncle Robb, what's a life quote that you live by that you came up with on your own?" My response was, "Much of the world either sees the glass half empty or half filled, but I always see it overflowing." ?

If you can see the hope, if you can see the light in every situation, whether it’s a good day or a bad day, you are focused on life. When you're focused on life, you become a witness, noticing more and more light that is flowing around you. As leaders, we are change agents. We change environments and we have the power to change dynamics from negative to positive. That's a very significant power. ?

Every day, I make a choice. I begin each day with an intentional time of gratitude. I call this the “first fruits” principle. I am committed to giving God my undivided attention as soon as I wake up. As soon as I open my eyes, I think of a few things for which I am grateful. Many times, I will take a deep breath and gives thanks that I’m alive, He is alive, I have health, I have family, I’m going to meet new people today, etc. Then I head downstairs, grab my cup of coffee, and continue my gratitude party. During this time, I think through more specific aspects of my life for which I am grateful. It can be as simple as the tires on my car having air or how a specific person is patient with me. It’s not unlike me to also pick up the bible and read some encouraging stories and apply them to my life.

When you choose to be thankful, you live a more consistent life of balanced emotions, which leads to consistent productivity.?

Practical Step: What are you are thankful for right now? Be specific.
