One step closer to strong and accessible regional data for First Nations people

The AIHW’s third release of the Regional Insights for Indigenous Communities (RIFIC) website was published today. The website is a centralised hub that brings together comprehensive data on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) people and their communities at the regional level.

Featuring intuitive and interactive data that is easy to navigate, users can engage, interpret and compare regional data. This includes states and territories, Indigenous Locations, Indigenous Regions, Statistical Area Levels and more.

The release introduces a new ‘Closing the Gap’ dashboard to track progress toward Closing the Gap targets at the regional level.

It also includes new and updated content based on 2021 Census data, providing insights into demography, income, language, education, work, housing circumstances and self-reported chronic conditions.

Several new data topics with statistics at the most granular geographic level have also been introduced. This includes MBS health checks, common reasons for hospitalisations, perinatal statistics, prevalence of treated end-stage kidney disease and dialysis, leading causes of deaths and information about the health workforce.

An artwork by First Nations artist Jay Hobbs, specifically developed for the AIHW is also a new feature to the website.

The AIHW is committed to regularly updating the website as new information becomes available.

Together with the ability to make comparative analysis, this depth and breadth of information is an extremely robust resource for decision makers and First Nations communities.
