While catching up with an old friend today, I realized the power of her story. It's inspiring.
I encouraged her to write her "emotional log" every night.
She was surprised to hear this word. "Emotional Log"
We often write in our daily journal "What all things did I do today?" or "To-do list for tomorrow"
But we rarely give a thought to "How did I feel today?" "When he said that, how did that make me feel?", "What was that I felt when She got the promotion?"
We turn our Daily Journals into accounting logbooks.
We avoid talking about or acknowledging our emotions.
Why do we do that?
Because we were never told to "Acknowledge and Respect" our emotions.
From early childhood, emotions were labelled as "Good" or "Bad".
and expressing oneself was always labelled as "bad".
Expression was only accepted when it was flattery or pleasing someone.
So we stopped thinking about our emotions.
What did it do to us?
I believe that's the reason each one of us is going through some of the other emotional challenges.
Look at the rate at with hormonal and mental health is getting adversely affected worldwide.
Toddlers roaming around with glasses on their eyes.
Everyone around you gets stressed and anxious some time.
Depression and Suicide rates climb ladders each year.
Let's do our part to take responsibility if this situation.
I believe this is the reason we have to make noise about #mentalhealth
Let's make a change starting with ourselves.
Confess your emotions to yourself before sleeping every night in the form of writing, audio or video.
Maintain an Emotional Log along with your Work Log on a daily basis.
This practice will take care of all your mental health needs.
Our UNPROCESSED and BURIED Emotions manifest in the form of physical, mental and emotional disturbances.
IMPORTANT: If you are scared that someone will read your truth, then:
- Be confident in your emotions. Embrace them. Own them. Don't disown them for anyone. Love them and they will love you back.
- Maintain a secret digital log. (Comment below and I will tell you the hack!)
