One Small Adjustment
I was watching a movie starring Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon this past weekend. Their characters had both just experienced a devastating blow in their careers and were working through all of the turmoil that ensued while also trying to navigate a new romantic relationship with each other. At one point, Paul Rudd's character, George, tells the story of how Play-Doh got started. Full disclosure, I haven't personally fact-checked this, partly because I know if it's not totally accurate, it might interfere with my ability to re-tell the story in good conscience and get my point across, so I'm just taking George's word for it in blind faith at this point. Ok, back to my story about the story...
According to George, some guy named Joe McVicker (another reason I should fact-check with a name like that) from Ohio invented a white gooey blob back in the 1950s that was used as a wallpaper cleaner from old-fashioned heating, (not exactly sure what that's referring to but we'll go with it) but as electric and gas heating became more popular, this white goo was rendered obsolete...until one day Mr. McVicker's sister-in-law Kay Zufall (another made-up-sounding name), who was a school teacher, noticed that her kids enjoyed squeezing the goo a lot more than hard modeling clay, and suggested to her brother-in-law to rebrand it as a kid's toy called Play-Doh, which took off and quickly eclipsed his previous sales by 100 fold (I actually made up that number for literary effect, you're welcome), and is still one of the hottest-selling children's toys nearly 70 years later.
George points out the fact that we're just one small adjustment away from making our lives work.
This universal maxim applies to every aspect of our lives. Maybe you need to tweak your marketing campaign or cold-calling routine in your business. Maybe your romantic relationship or your interactions with your kids needs a minor tweak to disrupt some old habits. Maybe your view of money is based on some deeply-rooted fear of not having enough of it to take care of your family, and it could use a minor adjustment to help you have more of an abundance perspective that doesn't require someone else losing so you can win. Maybe, just maybe, everyone comes out a winner if you spend a few minutes of your day to step back and look at your business, your relationships, your health, your spiritual practices, and be open to creating one simple new routine that just might take things in a whole new direction instantaneously.
If you think about it, the power of this is really exciting! I know this firsthand. New opportunities appear out of nowhere. Someone randomly walks into your office who needs your expertise. A friend of yours introduces you to someone just weeks after you delete all your dating app profiles, and next thing you know you're engaged to the most wonderful person you've ever met. The energy that emanates from your new mindset pervades those around you in a way that literally attracts abundance to you, effortlessly and without even realizing it sometimes.
I would love to hear your stories too. What small adjustments have you toyed around with that impacted your life in a big way. What small tweak are you committing to making today and how do you intend your life to be transformed as a result?
Now get out there and manifest the life you deserve!
