That skill? Adaptability.
Yes, adaptability—being flexible, open to change, and willing to pivot when necessary—has been the one trait that’s consistently helped me navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and thrive in an ever-changing work environment.
Here’s how it’s made all the difference:
Embracing Change Instead of Fearing It
Early in my career, I was guilty of clinging to my comfort zone. I’d find processes that worked and stick to them. But as industries shifted, new technologies emerged, and businesses became more dynamic, I realized that being rigid wasn’t just holding me back—it was putting me at risk of being left behind.
That’s when I made a conscious effort to embrace change. Instead of resisting new ways of doing things, I leaned into them. I sought out new tools, volunteered for challenging projects, and explored alternative approaches to problem-solving. It wasn’t always easy, but it paid off.
