The One Skill That Improves Your Content FAST!

The One Skill That Improves Your Content FAST!

There is a really simple technique for creating content that connects to your ideal clients, and you don’t need to be a professional copywriter to do it.

Listen to what your ideal clients are saying and use their words.

Copywriters have long understood the importance of this. They excel at tuning into what people are saying and reflecting those thoughts back in their writing.?

But as easy as that sounds, actually doing it doesn’t necessarily come easy.

Listening happens to be one skill I am very proud of. It has helped me sell 100’s of millions of dollars in products and services. One area where I particularly excel is intuitive listening—going beyond the surface to truly understand and reflect back what the other person is expressing.

I can often sense what someone is feeling, even if they haven’t put it into words.

It’s a hit at parties.

While this skill is incredibly valuable for sales and coaching, it didn’t seamlessly carry over into marketing because my default in content writing was to rely on my own interpretations rather than the actual words my clients used.

Although the context was accurate the connection was missing.

When you really listen to your clients, you gain valuable insights into their thoughts, feelings, and challenges. It’s like having a window into their world. This understanding is like gold for your marketing.

Just like connecting with someone who speaks another language, matching your language to theirs is how they feel understood and heard.?

So how do you cultivate this listening skill??

Start by being present during your conversations and writing down what is being said. Instead of thinking about what you’ll say next, focus on what your clients are saying and how they are saying it. Notice the words they use to describe their problems and aspirations.?

Pay close attention to their emotions, body language, and tone which tell the entire story.?

Once you have this insight, incorporate those exact words into your marketing materials; social media posts, website content, or emails. Using their language conveys your message more effectively while showing that you genuinely understand them.

Let’s be clear, this isn’t about manipulation. The goal is connection.?

When your ideal clients see their own words reflected back at them, they feel understood and valued. It builds trust and rapport, which are essential in any business relationship.

So next time you’re blanking on what to say, take a moment to listen first. Instead of trying to come up with the perfect pitch, focus on what your clients are saying. Their insights can guide you in creating messages that resonate deeply.

You don’t need to be a copywriter to connect to your clients, just be a good listener.?
