One size doesn't fit all

One size doesn't fit all

Henry Ford organised his entire business around these principles, famously telling prospective car buyers, “You can have any colour, as long as it’s black.” But today’s customers aren’t buying it. One-size-fits-all doesn’t fit anymore.?

The demand for personalised medical and industrial products is growing and appears to have moved from a marketing novelty to a driving force for product developers.?In fact,?“off-the-shelf”?is beginning to sound substandard, as the trend to personalise products to our preference, becomes the norm.?

No two customers are the same, which is why offering custom display and embedded solutions offer a unique product tailored to the end application.?Market competitiveness is actually enhanced by not adopting a generic approach, but by creating a product that helps to?differentiate brand, and the product itself, within the market it serves.?

True differentiation comes from?engineering innovation?and understanding how customers use their product.

Forward-thinking companies quite rightly want to put their own stamp on their products and this is more than a logo on the start-up screen. A distinct look can help users tell the manufacturer at a glance.?A unique, responsive, and easily accessible interface with an individual feel becomes exclusive to the developer.?

?Customising your display assembly or embedded board, means that you are not forced to over specify the display, or the electronics, which can result in higher demands being made on the processor, or too many unnecessary features on the display for the actual application requirement.

By specifying the display or embedded board from the start, designers can choose products that have?guaranteed availability?for much longer periods, ensuring component supply for the whole product lifecycle.?This is not always an easy task, as there are a bewildering amount of different combinations to consider, and making a single wrong choice could lead to an expensive redesign that the customised solution would avoid.?

So, good old Henry Ford’s philosophy of one-size-fits-all actually doesn’t fit with the world of today.?
