Last year, I participated in #Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) and finally finished my first fiction piece in three weeks.
Many parts of the story I wrote were ideas that had been brewing in my head for years. But to finally see my words come to life on a screen and to get my printed proof from Amazon was amazing.
I have seen it over and over again: you want to write that book or that screenplay but you have never sat down to actually write it.
For me, at first, the biggest stumbling block was "I have no time."
And then it was the thought that writing a book would be a daunting task.
I won't lie: writing can be hard. But it is not as hard as many of us make it seem.
So, how do you take those thoughts and finally write the book?
Here's a simple rule that can help: start with a beginning and an end.
How does your book start?
Has your main character just lost their spouse?
Did they just receive some bad news?
Are they running from something?
Think about how your story starts and write that paragraph.
The next step: how does your book end?
Where do you envision the story going?
What happens to your main character?
Yes, it is likely that your ending will change.
However, having an idea of how your story starts and ends is a powerful way to create a framework upon which to build your story.
