THAT ONE SECOND........!!!!!!!

What could happen in a #second? Isn't that a little time for something monumental to happen??

Not at all. One second has the power to change the course of your life in a way you can never imagine.?

I never thought a second would change my life while also changing someone else's destiny.??

I was happy with what became of that one second but was she happy with it??

It was during the job hunting phase after my post-graduation when my friend and I applied for the #HR Trainee role at an organization.?

The interview went very well. I gave my best, steering clear of all the pitfalls I made in my previous attempts. Even my friend shared the same positivity I had. We were eagerly waiting for the result.?

I was thrilled because a job here would mean the beginning of my HR career. The wait was over. The result came.?

The company had 2 open positions for HR interns and the first position went to my friend while the other found me. The HR told us to wait until the end of the day for confirmation and sent us back with hopes of a promising career.?

Another stretch of waiting began. Noon passed into dusk and dusk faded into the night but I didn't receive the phone call.??

When all hopes were about to wane, the phone rang.?

It was my friend saying she got the confirmation and wanted to know how things were on my side.??

With the first shadows of doubt, I called the HR to enquire about my job opening and that's when all my hopes of starting an HR career vanished.?

Apparently, the management changed their minds and wanted only one HR intern. Since my friend impressed them a lot, she got the job.?

No doubt I was unhappy. My friend called me after some time and I told her what transpired in the phone call with the HR.?

She became silent. Nobody said a word. Then, out of the blues, she said something. She didn't know this was the one second that was about to change her life.?

"I'll pull back my application, you get the job."?

I couldn't believe my ears. Why? What made her put my interest in front of hers?

I declined what she offered. I didn't want her to lose a job because I needed it. After all, she was the one selected initially.?

I told her not to do anything stupid and finished the call with her.?

The next day I got a call from the company's HR saying that my friend declined the offer claiming distance as an issue and that I was the next best candidate for the job.?

"#That #one #second" decision my friend took gave me this #HRcareer.?

While I've been dearly holding on to my profession for 10 years, she is now a housewife.?

I still wonder how her life would be if she had accepted that job. She would have made a great HR person because she was empathetic. She didn't like someone feeling dejected.??

However, I know she is happy with her current role as a housewife because, one way or the other, it is still a version of Human Resource Management.??

Just like I nurture a company's culture, she makes a good home filled with joy and happiness. Just like I attend to employees' concerns and sort it out, she understands her family and ensures they are all tightly knit together no matter what comes their way.?

Now I understand. The one second that changes everything…
