Try to remember that one second where you have to take the perfect decision and that decision is your last shot at this problem.Since a situation will always be a situation we can’t change it , the only thing we can do about this is we can address it in different ways and decision making is all about to choose the best way out of all.
As they say “Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.” Some decisions make you life and some ruins.
Your decisions may be as simple as what to order while sitting in a restaurant or as big as switching your industry completely. A lots of time in that restaurant holding the menu i think
” May be i should order them all..”
Yeah i know it would have been a silly decision but there are many decisions which you can take quickly by analyzing some important things so that you can save an inordinate amount of time, and a tremendous amount of energy, making choices between equally attractive options in everyday situations. Sometimes we only get some seconds to take that decision because those eyeballs in front of you with hopeful thoughts are looking at you.
Do it or not ? Hire or not hire ? Enough package ?Should I initiate that difficult conversation? Should i go for MBA ? Quit the job for business? There are several important questions like this and the answer of them is future.
So let’s think…
1. The decisions for Daily/Weekly/Monthly situations:- If you have to take these decisions quite often so its better to make this a habit for the next time. Now you can reduce your time for routine decision. If you build a habit-for example:always eat salad/fruits for lunch-than you avoid the decision completely and now you can save that precious time and your decision making energy for other things.
So these decisions are predictable but if there are some unpredictable decisions than.
2.Use If-Then thinking to choose quickly:- Alright let’s put it like this assume you are sitting in a movie theater and the boy sitting besides you is keep on checking his phone and that’s irritating you.Your if/then rule might be: if the boy is going to take his phone 2 more times, then i will say something. This method is good for unpredictable situations but still it is only for small decisions you can only take.
What about the big one’s ?
3.Pros-Cons method :- We all have something to think and to take decisions for our big solid problems. It’s a very important and well proven methodology to solve a problem. So the steps are as follows..
- The Simple process for decision-making is to compile a ‘weighted’ scored , of ‘pros and cons’ list.
- Pro means ‘for’, and con means ‘against’ – i.e., advantages and disadvantages.
- Then write down as many effects and implications of the particular option that you (and others if appropriate) can think of.
- If helpful ‘weight’ each factor, by giving it a score out of three or five points (e.g., 5 being extremely significant, and 1 being of minor significance)
- Now you can total each item you will actually be able to arrive at a total score,The bigger the difference between the total pros and total cons then the more attractive the option is.
Here is an example-
So what you are waiting for give these methods a chance. Think on these and let the outcome come , i am pretty sure it would be awesome and that one second which makes you afraid can give you a self relief. So keep thinking , keep taking decisions. A person what is today is just because of his previous decisions and decisions which are being taken today can take you to the path of success.
