One quick trick to fix a speech.
Want to lose an audience? Tell a story that didn’t happen.
Want to win an audience? Exaggerate a story that did.
One leads to doubt. The other leads to laughter.
Jerry Seinfeld says the back of his head blew off the first time he tried a pop tart as a kid.
Did that really happen? Nope.
Was he really blown away when pop tarts burst on the scene in an age where breakfast was boring and flavorless for kids?
I would vote “yes.”
The audience knows when you’re lying and they hate it.
The audience knows when you’re exaggerating and they love it.
True story.
