One Phrase Inspiring Leaders Use to Bring the Best Out of People

Have you ever had someone who really believed in you??

Was it a teacher, a family member, a friend? Chances are, a name came quite quickly. Think about how you feel about this person, even today.?

Being trusted by someone else is a watershed moment in your life. It is the moment someone else sees something in you that you don’t see in yourself. It is the moment someone else believes in who you can become.?

Whether you are leading an organization, a team, or your own family, the best leaders today see the potential in others and inspire them to achieve it.?

Stephen M.R. Covey, Co-Founder & Global Practice Leader at FranklinCovey Speed of Trust Practice,?believes a leader’s role is to “unleash [other’s] potential for greatness. Not to try and contain or control them.”?(1)

And while?research?demonstrates that people who feel trusted perform better, building that confidence is sometimes elusive (2). One problem in building trust is overestimating our ability to convey our trust to others.

In a recent podcast, Covey shared a simple way you can clearly communicate trust that inspires:?

You tell them.?

It can be as simple as saying, “I trust you with this project, and here is why.”

Conveying this sense of trust inspires those you lead to become the best versions of themselves. It helps them unlock their potential and achieve what you already know they can.

How To Get?The Most From Those You Lead

  1. Think of someone who really matters to you.
  2. Say, “I trust you because [share why].”

“I bring you the gift of these four words: I believe in you.”?― Blaise Pascal?

If I'm not making it known regularly how much I believe in my team and my employees, I'm not doing my job right. I know that I can always do a better job of motivating my already-incredible employees. Ensure your team knows that you believe in them while never failing to give them reasons to believe in you.

To truly transition from a 'command and control' to 'trust and inspire' style, leaders have to be prepared to challenge their orthodoxies and reassess their critical assumptions regarding people management?from the "inside out"?to not come across as disingenuous and manipulative even while mostly saying all the right things at the right time.

Thanks Greg. I've been thinking a lot lately about how the word enCOURAGEment means to give someone courage. When we assure someone that we believe in them, we are giving them the gift of courage to tackle whatever challenges they are facing
