Is the One-Page Website a One-Hit Wonder or Here to Stay?

Hello everyone! It's been a while since my last newsletter, and for a good reason. I've been developing new offerings to support entrepreneurs and small business owners. Stay tuned for a big reveal and new podcast episodes on Light at the End of the Funnel.

In the meantime, let's discuss a growing trend in the online world: the one-page website or "hub." The concept is to eliminate fluff, leaving only essential information for prospects to browse, reducing the number of clicks needed, and using storytelling to control the conversation around the business.

While there are many reasons to have a one-page website, I must admit that I often find them lacking the depth of a traditional website. I wonder if this trend is here to stay or just a passing fad. It depends on the type of business, services offered, and the ideal client's preferences.

A one-page website could be suitable for:

  1. App signups - Faster load times and a simple online presence for users who will primarily use a mobile app.
  2. Single service/offer businesses - If you excel at one thing, a one-page website might suffice.
  3. Websites not reliant on organic traffic - SEO requires more content than a one-page website can provide.
  4. Businesses targeting clients who prefer simplicity and ease of use.
  5. Those already established offline and seeking to solidify their influence online.
  6. Businesses in need of a temporary online presence while developing a more comprehensive website.

However, multiple-page websites are essential for those who:

  1. Rely on organic marketing to attract cold leads - SEO demands more pages and content.
  2. Are still defining their target audience and ideal clients - One-page websites don't provide the same segmentation and tracking capabilities.
  3. Are not yet well-known in their industry - A more in-depth website helps build the like/know/trust factor.
  4. Offer multiple products/services - It's challenging to fit everything on one page.
  5. Aim to attract a niche audience that appreciates detailed information.
  6. Engage in social media outreach and social selling - A one-page website may seem redundant to your social media profiles.
  7. Need authority and influence in a highly competitive industry - Multi-page websites help you stand out.

And as someone who does their research before they make any big purchase, anyone who has a one-page website alone won't be where I spend my money. The reason being is I look for established brand recognition (I mean that's what I do for a living so of course this what I look for in a service offering). Meaning, that while yes I want to work with the best of the best, I also want to see that the company or person I'm considering values their online presence too.

But that's just me... :)

Ultimately, whether a one-page website works for you depends on your goals and target audience. Assess your website's purpose and the experience you want your prospects to have before deciding on your next steps.
