One Nation

Yesterday, I watched the violent events on Capitol Hill with a sense of shock, disgust and disdain, as I am sure all of us did. To see our government’s hallowed halls vandalized and desecrated by an angry mob of rioters was an affront to our core beliefs as Americans. This act of complete lawlessness and disregard for the safety of others and utter disrespect for the heartbeat of our nation cannot be condemned loudly or strongly enough.

We are reminded of the critical need to remain vigilant, protecting and nurturing our democracy at all times. Our elected government must be based on trust and a collective mission. This is not something that should ever be taken lightly.

A cornerstone of our Republic is the orderly transfer of power from one presidential administration to the next, which must always be maintained to ensure the ongoing health and vitality of our system of government.

The United States has always shown an ability to overcome periods of turbulence and emerge stronger — this time will be no exception. Our country is composed of Americans who care deeply about family, community and each other, and who have greater commonalities than differences. 

Together, we will move forward as one nation and one people.
