Do you often judge people by their appearance??
We have all been guilty of it at some point in our lives. It’s inevitable. It is human nature to automatically make judgments about people from the minute we first see or meet them, but this can be a tricky thing to do.?
First impressions are not always fair or accurate. External appearances - what they wear, how they look, and their behavior - are SO easy to manipulate.
Judging people by external appearances prevents us from fully knowing them and gives us just a superficial idea.
As we begin the end of 2022, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on one of those powerful lessons I've learned this year:
I once read a quote that said, “Do not judge by appearances; a rich heart may be under a poor coat.” And I cannot stress it enough.
People trying to impress, wanting to 'fit in' and prove something to others, aren’t showing their real version most of the time. And those living authentically have long since given up trying to impress us with a ‘fancy coat’.

1 年Great article! I do wonder how many people today actually take the time to get to know people well enough to know how authentic they are. We all know social media drives us to depend on appearances in creating first impressions. That can be misleading since the same person who lays in bed at night praying for others, isn't necessarily going to be posting that to the world on social media. But they may be doing more to help humanity than many high profile people who are constantly promoting what they do. I think the reality is we will probably never know on this side of our lives who really made a difference and lived from a place of conviction and the desire to help others. I do think someday we will lie on our deathbeds, knowing what we did with our lives, and the applause of others will mean little to nothing in comparison to the satisfaction of knowing we lived our most extraordinary life.
Initial impressions matter. But even if our initial impression of someone isn't favorable, we shouldn't pass up the chance to get to know them better since we never know how vital the relationship we forge with them might turn out to be. Never forget to treat people the way we would like to be treated. People are wasting a lot of potential and aptitude because they are quick to judge others. Chris Winfield
