One more month
In one month I hop into the car and drive to Vermont for my MFA residency. One more month to make that last push to empty the art studio and all extraneous objects that have accumulated. One month is not a lot of time, and I doubt I will be successful in getting the studio in order. It has been a slow, revelatory process of going through all of the art...reviewing the past 30 years of working. Uncovering student work from the 80's was insightful and nostalgic. So many marks and gestures have remained relevant. The energy and vigor of the works still impresses me.
I am going through all of my large drawings on paper now, most created between 2005 and 2012. Much like the student paintings, they have a vigor and density that still makes me smile. I doubt I will sell any, and that is really not okay, but I will take them to Arizona with me. I think they will be okay with a new arid context.
