One Month of Musk Media

Time surely flies. It has been nearly a month since?Elon Musk took charge ?of?Twitter . From laying off employees to adding new features and capabilities to its platform and revoking banned accounts, among other controversies, a lot has changed in a short span of time.?
But, in the backdrop of everything happening around Twitter and the media spotlight, it is slowly turning itself into a mainstream media company, which is?nothing close ?to the mission of becoming a 'most accurate source of information ?about the world.'?
Looks like Musk is smartly using the platform as bait to mislead mainstream media, mocking and bashing them for spreading misinformation. This move by Musk certainly puts the media in a bad light, which seems like both good and bad news.?
Musk Playing the Media?
This started soon after Elon Musk took over Twitter, and many mainstream media houses, including the likes of?WSJ ,?Business Insider ,?CNBC , and others, covered pranksters who fooled members of the press into believing they were laid-off Twitter engineers. Interestingly, now they?seem to have been rehired.
A few days ago, Elon Musk?tweeted ?saying 'False' to one of?Business Insider's articles . He said that Business Insider is still not a real publication. "Just give up," he added.?
Similarly to one of the Associated Press?articles , Musk?said ?AP is an expert in misinformation. "Twitter couldn't hope to compete!" he added, saying 'who are these 'online experts' that they speak of??
The same goes for one of The New York Times?posts , where he said that this is one of the biggest failures in US journalistic integrity of the 21st century, replying to Slashdot's?comment .?
Earlier this month, the Times of India published an article called 'Has Musk Gone Crazy Since Taking Over Twitter ,' to which he wittily?replied , saying, "Nope, I was always ??." These are some examples where Musk has been blatantly calling out fake news, particularly targeting big media houses, and at the same time, being friendly with some.
Elon Musk's Trump Card?
This behaviour of Elon Musk is quite similar to former US president Donald Trump, who also used to call out the media as?fake news . Recently, he was added back on the platform, saying that Twitter corrected a?grave mistake ?in banning his account; despite no violation of the law or terms of service, Musk said, saying that he is okay with him not tweeting.?
Donald Trump's attacks on the press were frequent and would go far beyond his many tweets claiming 'fake news' about accurate coverage, which he found unflattering.?
Promotes Twitter
Elon Musk recently lauded his team for its coverage of the FTX meltdown, where he?said ?that it is incomparably faster and better quality than old-school media.?
In addition to this, he also?said ?that the FIFA World Cup 2022 boosted Twitter activity to a new level. Musk claimed that the World Cup traffic hit almost 20,000 tweets per second without delving into the stats on how they arrived at this number or no proof whatsoever.?
