Monique Worrell, previously suspended as state attorney by Gov. Ron DeSantis, won back her role in Florida's 9th Judicial Circuit with 57% of the vote, defeating DeSantis-appointed Andrew Bain. Her suspension, based on claims that her policies were too lenient on gun and drug crimes, remains under challenge in a federal lawsuit filed by voters and advocacy groups. Worrell’s victory has been celebrated by Florida Democrats, who view her win as a stand for prosecutorial reform and a rejection of what they call a politically motivated suspension.
