The One Massive Mistake Which PM Modi didn't rectify/can't rectify

The Indian Government led by Prime Minister Modi had taken a series of measures towards tackling the Covid-19 crisis. He successfully pre-empted and acted upon many things which many countries overlooked. It is thanks to his foresight that India still is better off compared to the rest of the world despite increasing number of new cases.
However a thing which he failed to pre-empt may haunt him and India for a long time to come.
As Janta curfew got imposed and a long-standing lockdown seemed inevitable, many regional news channels reported of mass exodus of migrants to the Hindi heartland. Major metros like Mumbai and Delhi saw mass movement in trains back to their native town whether Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and elsewhere.
Realising it too late, the PMO tweeted desperately while it may have been too little too late. A few thousands or them possibly millions of them returned to their rural villages out of which a few took Covid-19 with them. Who were infected and where did they go will only come up as additions to stats in the coming days.
What could have been restricted to Mumbai, Delhi and major metros where people land in International airports, the phenomena may have shifted to hinterland as remote as Motihari, Aara and such backward regions in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar where bulk of Indian population resides.
This is very similar to what happened in 1918 in the flu which even Mahatma Gandhi was afflicted with which took the highest toll in recent Indian history. The flu started in Bombay with returning soldiers and got into villages where much of the population resides. Crores of people died and as much as 1/5th of the death across the world were Indians.
PM Modi started screening foreigners way early than rest of the world and also pre-empted things to shut down certain countries. PM Modi didn't avert these mass migration which will start to reflect on the figures over next few days.
In today's address, the PM should have alerted the masses about this phenomenon and asked to take precautions from migrated family members so that the man in Chhapra in Bihar with the healthcare available near him won't transmit the same to his family before trying to get treatment which such regions are not equipped to deal with.
India has a bigger task in hand now.

5 年Very well written Amit Bhagwan Wadhwani must say you have a good foresight and have good knowledge on vast variety of subject. This covid19 lockdown is now heading to a disaster in villages and cities alike. Let's hope and pray that this subsides faster than it spread its reach.
