One major reason for counselling failing Indigenous Women and Girls

One major reason for counselling failing Indigenous Women and Girls

I am asking for help in Fort Simpson Northwest Territories. I have met many women for Counselling and a common theme is emerging.

For all kinds of reasons the men will not participate in Counselling. My experience is that their denial is high, their pain is huge and their self esteem is low. Yes trust is earned but first try and risk by taking that first step.

I am respectfully asking that the men who can speak from their hearts and are able to share reach out to these men. Their partners and I need them to take that risk as difficult as it may be to come to session. At least check me out. If I am disrespectful leave. If I push leave. If I am insensitive leave. For your partners and your children please participate. Text me or call me. My commitment is to come every month as I have for 8 years straight in other communities. You will not be judged but you will be challenged to find your heart and soul. I will not negotiate if there is violence. I will give you all that I am professionally as a counsellor and human being. As a father and a husband.

I work very hard to help you feel safe before we even start the healing. I believe no matter what the past held you can learn to forgive yourself and to live acts of kindness. I do not teach harm reduction. I will support all clients to become alcohol and drug free through moments of sobriety...building upon each minute/hour/day. I have access to treatment for substance abuse and trauma. At least think about these words. Any man who refuses to come to Counselling with their partner cannot become part of the solution or healing. A tree that stands alone cannot withstand the winds of a storm the same as a Forrest. As a family when you stand together, come together, you are much stronger. Individually you are at greater risk for being blown away. You may have experienced abandonment in your life but do not abandon your partner or family today. Thank you. Raymond Pidzamecky M.S.W.
