Someone reported me to the "Police"!

LinkedIn is a shallow, fickle place. One minute you could be the name on everyone's feed; the next...poof! You're gone! Invisible. A nobody.

Going "viral" is not all it's cracked up to be.

'Crack' is a good word for it, actually!

It's addictive. One taste and you're hooked. You'll never get over it. Never get clean. And you'll never forget how that first hit made you feel...seeing all those little red circles popping up on your notifications, every second, for hours, constant, never-ending, round and round we go.

I've done it 3 times in 2 months.

And it would have been 4 but a concerned citizen reported the post to the "LinkedIn Police" because it contained "explicit" content. Free speech, eh? ??

Getting your fix from vanity metrics is not a good thing – but it's why you're here, isn't it?

Imagine if your post brought you 100s of likes, 100s of comments, and 1000s of followers...and out of those 1000 new followers, a handful of them want to "buy" what you "sell".

Just like in real life, everyone on LinkedIn wants to be liked.

They want their coworkers or boss to like them.

They want recruiters or headhunters to like them.

They want potential clients and prospects to like them.

So, when no one "likes" you, it hurts. But I know what your problem is.

Attention!

LinkedIn is a social media platform first and foremost. And like every other social media platform, it craves attention. If your content doesn't capture it, the algorithm will chew you up and spit you out.

Every word, in every line, of every post should be tailored towards capturing attention!

Scrap that last sentence. I'm lying. It's wrong. This is the truth...

Every word, in the FIRST (and second) line, of EVERY post should COMMAND attention!

Nothing else matters.

I hate that I'm telling you this because it goes against everything I believe in, but it's a fact – no one cares about your content, your great idea, your hard work and skills.

People just want to be hooked!

If you can get people to stop scrolling...

If you can get people to click '...see more'...

If you can get people to stay there for a few seconds...

If you can engage like a madman for an hour...

If you can engage on other people's posts...

If you can engage with your network...

If you can engage with comments...

You'll feed the algorithm.

You'll feed the addiction.

You'll feel that high.
