Here is a custom Foot-Nut we made a couple years ago.
We started with a 13-3/4" diameter bronze tube X 14" long, and machined a 5" diameter x 1" pitch - special acme type of thread - all the way through the bore.
Then we machined away the material we didn't need to get the foot pad, and leave a 6-1/4" diameter around the OD of the threads.
Started at 850 - 900 lbs and but we could pick it up when it was finished at around 90 lbs.
The thread finish was superb. (way to go Joe)
This was originally a casting about 100 years earlier. It would have been tough to single-point a thread like that in those days.
I would like to have met the man that did it!
We had to make a sample nut to verify that it would fit on the threaded shaft it went on, which we had to measure to begin with.
A challenging project and a feather in our Cap.
We've done similar ones since then.
