No one has it All - And that is OK

No one has it All - And that is OK

First the about the picture - flashback from 15 years ago.

My son is ‘reverse feeding me’, when I was trying to feed him. Smart cookie he was - still is :-).?

My mother recently found some old pictures and has been sending them to me. And as I looked at these pictures my heart swelled up with nostalgia.

I miss those days, and yet as I remember them, not all was hunky dory in my life then. I was suffering from (undiagnosed) postpartum depression and more...?

As I went down memory lane, I realized that so much has changed, and yet there is a constant as well. The constant is that life always comes in many shades and hues. There are gifts & enablers and there are obstacles & challenges.

The nature and format of the gifts and challenges change - but there are always challenges. The only difference is that today I have learnt that ‘challenges’ and ‘difficulties’ are not a bad thing.?

We live in times where we are constantly bombarded by messages that are telling us - ‘we can have it all’.

Our brains, are really quite innocent when it comes to picking up the messages that are thrown at it and hence when we are constantly told that ‘we can have it all’ those of us who have an achievement orientation, can easily begin to start feeling ‘unworthy’, or ‘not good enough’ when we actually don't get it all.

I am speaking from experience here - daily experience in fact.

Quite luckily one of my professions (being a coach), also allows me frequent previews into peoples inner worlds. I get to see the ‘bigger’, ‘deeper’ and even ‘behind the scenes’ perspectives of the lifes of even ‘very successful people’.?

I get to see and hear the things that they would not put on social media. The things you will not even hear them talk about in interviews or on panel discussions.

And having seen and listened to so many of these perspectives let me tell you again - “NOBODY HAS IT ALL”. - And that is okay!

Really that is okay!?

These so called successful people are not broken or flawed or cursed because they don't have it all. And they are also not wrong for not showcasing their challenges and sorrows and heartbreaks on social media. They have a right to their privacy.

And while we are at this - if by any chance you see my posts and updates and think of me as someone who ‘has it all’, please be rest assured. I don't either. Rather, I am far, far, from it!

And I am okay with it. Really okay with it.

I think the problem lies in us even expecting that either us or ‘other people’ need to ‘have it all’, and ‘have it all without challenges’, and ‘have it all continuously’.

What if that was never the point of life?

What if life was not meant to be a shopping mall where we ‘buy it all’ or even ‘build it all’?

What if life was meant to be a journey that has its ups and downs

An adventure, with challenges and problems

A quest, where not everything comes easily, and we don't necessarily have to win always?

So here is my alternate perspective to you today as you craft your own beautiful life. Stop obsessing about crafting it into a picture that ‘has it all’, but craft it as an experience where you 'experience all that comes your way'.

A life where the uniqueness of your journey is the uniqueness of your life itself.

The way I see it, the very process of ‘crafting my life’ is the adventure I am interested in. My dreams and goals give me direction and inspiration for expansion, but reaching them is not the only thing that matters.

My visions and targets are very useful motivators in my journey, but not the soul of it.?

You don't have to have it all!

No one has it all

And that is okay

Because ‘all’ is not the game

We came here to play

No one is ‘doing’ it all

And that is okay too

Please don't beat yourself

Is my gentle plea to you

No one is ‘being’ it all

And that also is okay

No matter what the ‘gurus’

Continue to proclaim and say

So be gentle on yourself

As you craft your career journey

As your unique portfolio combination

Of learning, experience and money

Do we NEED it ALL? Only then would you want to: 'HAVE it ALL'. And my next question is: What is that IT that we want to have? IT keeps changing for me. :)
