Want to improve your writing?

It's simple.

Writers improve by studying the works of other writers.

You need to see the words in print, read sentences strung together, analyze the writer's choices. ?

It's like high school English, only there are no deadlines and no one is grading you.

Learn from your favorite LinkedIn creators by reading their posts and dissecting them.

Ask these three questions:

  • What about this made me stop my scroll?
  • How is it structured to hold my attention?
  • Which elements can I add to my next post?

Badly written novels and blog posts have things to teach you, too.

Believe it or not, I don't read lengthy captions. Length articles yes. It's just how I choose to consume content. It's as if I'm being attacked by a wall of text. If a hook intrigues me and I click more only to find a wall of text, I have to be really intrigued to continue reading.

So, as a LinkedIn ghostwriter and content creator, I'm hyper aware of things that turn me off about content. As a result, I try to add spacing, bullet lists, and emojis to captions so that they aren't too overwhelming.

Reads to understand how the visual, post, the caption was created.?

While LinkedIn is still a text-heavy platform, posts with visuals outperform text-only posts. So, consider how it all works together: the image or video, the graphic text, the caption.

  • What grabbed your attention first?
  • Which visual posts have higher impressions?

Look through your behavior and your analytics for patterns, and then repeat them in your next content cycle.

Read all sorts of things from everywhere.

Read graffiti on the subway, road signs, ads, captions. Jot down what works and what doesn't work.

Allow yourself to be inspired.

Writers have no paints, no colors, no fabrics. Writers have words and language. That's all we need, really.??

This really helps me look at my writing in a different way. I'll be paying attention to others' posts from now on and answering the questions you mentioned, such as what caught my eye first. It's helpful to step outside of your post and view it from an outsider's perspective.

Robyn-Lee Samuels it is interesting that you said to look at signs. I haven’t even thought about that.
