The ONE Fear We All Have – Is It Holding You Back from Being More Visible?

Have you ever watched someone confidently owning the spotlight—posting boldly on social media, delivering polished videos, or effortlessly marketing their business—and thought, “I wish I could be more visible like that”?
You’re not alone.
Many successful women in business feel a hidden reluctance to self-promote.
It’s not that they don’t have the talent or the expertise—it’s that little voice whispering, “Who am I to shine so brightly?”
This hesitation isn’t about lack of skill; it’s about the fear of being truly seen.
I know because I’ve worked with countless women who are experts in their field, brimming with ideas and stories that could inspire others.
They dream of writing a book, launching a new service, or expanding their reach.
But when it comes to putting themselves out there and saying, “This is what I’ve created, and it’s worth your attention,” they hold back, they freeze.
Here’s the thing: self-promotion isn’t about shouting your name into a void or trying to please everyone.
It’s about sharing your value with the people who need it most.
Imagine you’ve baked the most exquisite cake.
You’ve perfected the recipe, used the finest ingredients, and decorated it beautifully.
Now, would you hide it in the pantry and hope someone stumbles across it?
Of course not!
You’d place it on a stand, let its aroma waft through the room, and invite the right people to come and enjoy it.
That’s what self-promotion is: an invitation.
It’s saying, “Here’s something I made that I believe can delight or help you.”
When you reframe self-promotion this way, it becomes less about seeking validation and more about offering a gift.
For example, when women I work with focus on writing a book, I encourage them to think of their ideal reader.
By narrowing their focus to one person—someone who truly needs their message—they discover clarity.

Suddenly, self-promotion feels less like “selling” and more like sharing.
Think about your own journey.
If you’ve overcome challenges, gained knowledge, or found solutions, isn’t it worth sharing that with others who are still struggling?
Imagine a lighthouse.
Its job isn’t to seek attention or prove its worth—it simply shines so that others can find their way.
Visibility works the same way.
It’s not about trying to appeal to everyone or being flawless; it’s about being present for those who need you.
When you let go of the fear of being visible and embrace self-promotion as an act of service, it becomes empowering.
It’s no longer, “What if they don’t like me?” but “What if this changes someone’s life?”
Your story, your ideas, your work—they matter.
By showing up, speaking out, and sharing what you’ve created, you give others the opportunity to learn, grow, or simply feel seen.
That’s the value of self-promotion: it’s not about you; it’s about them.
So, what’s your “cake”?
What’s the light you’re meant to shine?
It’s time to stop hiding in the pantry and start sharing what you’ve created with the world.
Because when you do, you’re not just promoting yourself—you’re making a difference.
The time to think about shining your light, gaining greater visibility, is now -

What a great frame to place on self promotion, is definitely something I know lots of people shy away from, which is difficult especially when business requires it! I do wonder if tall poppy syndrome has anything to do with it…?

1 个月The interesting think is that most readers do not hold a grudge against the author or think the author is just shamelessly self-promoting in a self-serving way. So why should a budding author think that about themselves? Try and ask your clients how they feel about the authors of books that made a difference.
