One day you'll be in demand

One day you'll be in demand

A switch will happen in your career.?

You start by seeking out opportunities and hoping to land one.?

Then one day, people will be seeking out YOU.?

Here’s how to flick that switch.?

More Choices = More Demand

Most professionals take their career on a step-by-step basis.?

They get a job, they do that job well, but they don’t think too much about what’s next until they’re prompted to.

The longer you keep doing a job, the better you will be, and eventually someone will approach you because you have a certain perceived value based on your experience, tenure or position.?

If you want that switch to happen earlier, then you need to seek out options.?

Too many professionals only look for a job when they feel they HAVE to.

And yet there are so many companies that are wanting what you have, right now.?

The more people that know about you, the more in-demand you will be.?

I’m not saying you should go out and apply for jobs, especially if you’re really happy with your current position.

All I’m saying is, what would it mean for your career prospects if you were proactive about the next step, and not reactive?

Conversations, not ultimatums

In your early career, hiring is a one-way process.

You see a job, you apply for it, and then if you receive an offer you feel you have to “take-it-or-leave-it”.?

To flick the switch, you should approach offers as conversations and not ultimatums.?

A conversation happens when two sides explore the value that can be gained by working together and what could be possible if certain things happen.?

You may fear that if you don’t accept an offer on the spot that it might be taken away.?

But if you’re automatically accepting offers, you are closing down the prospect of where your career could go.?

It gets easier to have these conversations when you are more experienced and are more confident in your value.?

But even if you’re starting your first job, you should be able to hold a discussion about what a partnership could mean.?

And the more conversations you have with key decision-makers about your potential, the more likely they are to help you realise it (and increase their demand to keep you).?

Don’t undersell yourself

As a Professional and Executive Coach, I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

You don’t need coaching to have an amazing career.?

Just consider for a moment all that you have achieved so far in your career.

You are doing excellent work and you are making a great impact.?

And do you want to know the best part?

You’re just getting started!

Imagine where your career can go from here!!

The value you can provide will keep growing and growing.?

So what’s the best thing you can do for your career?

Know. Your. Worth.?

If you want to be in-demand, then you must have a clear awareness of your value and choose opportunities that align with the impact you want to make.?

The switch won’t happen if you compromise on who you are and what you can bring to the table.
