One Day is Today

Last week I registered for the?Black Leaders Detroit Ride for Equity. It’s a bike ride organized to bring awareness to the lack of access to capital affecting Black entrepreneurs. I thought participation just meant that I would pay my registration fee and show up on my bike for the kickoff. Once my registration was complete, I realized that there was a component that allowed each rider to raise additional funds toward the cause. I shared the link with my fundraising goal and within moments of posting on my social media platforms I got an email saying someone had donated. When I saw that it was one of my dear friends, I quickly sent her a text message expressing my gratitude. After sharing her excitement for my adventure, she said, “I am also practicing for when I can become a full-time philanthropist.”

This reminded me how for years, even into adulthood, I have been saying, “I want to be an investor and a philanthropist when I grow up.” As much as I don’t want to believe it, I think I’m middle aged now, so the grown-up years have arrived. I think sometimes we put these huge requirements on what it means to become that person we aspire to be one day. What might it look like instead to define and design it in a way that is accessible to us right now?

For me, investing was about having an overflow of abundance that would permit me to both live and give. The giving part was what would fuel the philanthropy. I suppose I created a mental barrier thinking that I had to wait until I could give millions of dollars before I deserved these titles. Both paths imply giving generously, but perhaps what that means is relative to what I have right now. The way the world and technology are set up now, I can start by investing or giving to causes I believe in with as little as five dollars. So that means, I can decide that what I thought was the ever elusive and faraway “One day…”, is actually today.

Here are a few things to consider as you move your “One day…” to today.

The Myth of Tomorrow.?Is it ever really tomorrow? The truth is, it’s actually only ever today. Send the tedium and busy work to this nonexistent location and remember that the things that bring you joy, pleasure, peace or meaning don’t always have to be the ones on your waiting list. Move them up to VIP status today.

Right Now, is Real.?All that exists is right now. With that being true, what’s most important right now? What do you need most right now? How can you best take care of yourself right now? The moment is what matters. What will you do with it?

Do it Today.?What’s something you really want to do, but you’ve allowed the stories you’ve created to convince you that it’s out of your reach? Make the call. Send the email. Put down the deposit. Create the plan.?“Leap and the net will appear.”?– John Burroughs

This week I challenge you to do that one thing that you’ve been putting off for one day. Let one dollar, one step, one moment be the catalyst that catapults you into simply starting today.

?Manifestation Affirmations

“One day…” is Today.

I am who I’ve always wanted to be.

I am moving my needs and desires from the waiting list to VIP Status.
