One day till the election, we’ve been talking to the candidates

Paul Moat, Chief Executive, NCHA

With only a day till polling day, we’ve been talking to the candidates in the East Midlands.

Those representing us in our constituencies, and the party that form the next government, will have a big impact on the work that we do at NCHA. Our future plans for affordable housing developments, retrofitting (improving the energy rating of) older homes, and delivering social care service; all are impacted by Westminster.

So ahead of election day, we’ve been talking to the candidates about the important work we deliver, and detail the commitment and security in funding that we’ll need to plan for the years ahead.

#PlanForHousing

The country is in the midst of a housing crisis. Last year, housing associations built one in four new homes, but while there are eight million people with an unmet housing need in England, and over a million families on housing waiting lists, we as a sector are ambitious to do more.

We believe the housing crisis can be solved. But to achieve this, we need the next government to commit to a long-term plan for housing. That’s why we’re supporting the National Housing Federation ’s #PlanForHousing campaign. With a plan in place, by 2035 as a sector we can:

? End child homelessness

? Halve overcrowding

? Give the security of a social home for one million more people

? Provide a warm and decent home for seven million more families

? Improve affordability

? Boost productivity by ensuring every region has the homes it needs to grow

We’re ready to sit at the heart of any long-term plan and support the next government in ending the housing crisis.

#SpeakUpForCare

There is growing unmet adult social care need in England, and the system is in desperate need of reform. Not-for-profit care providers, like NCHA, are delivering excellent levels of care and support while facing significant underfunding and local government commissioning challenges. Ultimately, these issues are resulting in a lack of access to support for those who need it.

We’re standing with the National Care Forum in their call for the next government to publicly acknowledge the essential role social care plays, to better join up health and social care, and to fully fund the care sector to ensure quality of service and levels of pay that are reflective of the service delivered. #SpeakUpForCare

First 100 days

The work doesn’t stop on 4 July - Whatever happens tomorrow, whoever forms the next government, we’ll be ready to work with them to help deliver the affordable housing and social care that people in this country so desperate need.
